I arrived here safe and endured the long trip. Thankfully, I slept pretty well on the flight here. We waited at the airport and our ride came. He drove us to the base (Camp As Sayliyah) in Qatar where we went through several checkpoints. We ate dinner and pretty much headed to bed.

7 Perfect Workouts for the Perfectly Workout-Averse
At Sityodtong, a two-level martial arts center in Somerville, I meet up for training with Kenny Florian, above. The 30-year-old BC grad turned Somerville-based Ultimate Fighter is here prepping for an April match at the Palms in Las Vegas (which he subsequently won). Friends fans who recall Jon Favreau’s guest turn as an Ultimate Fighter might associate the sport with its former “no holds barred” rep, but recent regulations have made Ultimate Fighting—best described as a mix of boxing, wrestling, and jujitsu—a little more humane. read more

Florian eyes sport's best
Kenny Florian grins wanly at the mention of his willingness to fight in any weight class. Florian Becoming Face of UFC
Hey, don’t laugh. Dover’s own Octagon star was asked to represent the UFC and Spike TV at the annual Television Critics Association in Pasadena, Calif., this past week. Florian, who graduated from Dover-Sherborn High School and

January 14, 2007 Knockout Marketing
Two men, barefoot and slathered with Vaseline, their hands covered in little more than leather wraps, enter a cage at the center of the arena. For five minutes, they kick and punch and lock limbs, trying to land a headlock known in their trade as a guillotine and designed to cut off the blood flow in the opponent's carotid artery.

At the end of the first round, one fighter _ Kenny "KenFlo" Florian, a former college soccer player from Massachusetts _ rests on a stool.

"Be patient!" his trainer tells him. "God will tell you what to do!"

Less than a minute later, Florian crushes his elbow into the right temple of his opponent, Sean "The Muscle Shark" Sherk, a father of two from Minnesota with no discernible neck. Blood begins to spurt from Sherk's head, pooling on the mat, hanging in coagulating strands from the cage fence.

Kenny Florian: Lessons learned and respect earned
Kenny Florian simply wasn’t getting any respect. Not from fans, not from writers and, in an especially harsh example, not even from some UFC officials. Florian, a 30 year old 6 fight veteran was set to take on one of the most dominant welterweight fighters of the last decade, Sean Sherk, and not many gave him a chance to survive, health in tact, much less win. read more

November 19, 2007 Florian’s Title Baptism a Bloodbath
Even in a violent sport like Ultimate Fighting, Kenny Florian wasn’t quite prepared for the blood.

“It was pretty bad,” the Dover lightweight said of the cut he opened above Sean Sherk’s left eye during their Oct. 14 title match at UFC 64 in Las Vegas. “There was blood gushing all over the place. He’d end up taking me down and there was blood in my eyes, my mouth, my nose, my shorts. We repainted The Octagon in Sherk’s blood. He just bled for five rounds. It was pouring out. It was pretty disgusting.

October 15, 2006 UFC 64 Aftermath
Dave Doyle's FOXSports.com MMA Blog *Ken Florian had one of those performances last night where you gain in stature by losing. No doubt Sherk won convincingly (I had it 49-46); but for a fighter with his experience level, Florian's jiu-jitsu was solid and he did his share of damage. Ironically, the cut over Sherk's eye ended up backfiring on Florian, as it may have enabled Sherk to slip out of his opponent's submission attempts. "It got me on that armbar," Florian said. "I thought I had it sunk in and I turned and he just slipped right out of it. The blood and sweat made it real hard to lock anything in."

Lightweight title match:
Sean Sherk vs. Ken Florian

This match is for the vacant UFC lightweight championship. Jens Pulver was the first 155-lb. champion, left the promotion without dropping the title back in 2002, and it has gone unfilled until now. Sean Sherk (30-2-1) is a veteran from Minneapolis. He previously fought as a welterweight and holds the distinction of being the only fighter ever to take UFC 170-lb. champ Matt Hughes a full five rounds (in a decision loss). Sherk's only other career loss is to No. 1 welterweight contender Georges St. Pierre. Florian, a former Ultimate Fighter contestant from the Boston area, is much less experienced than Sherk, but has won his past three fights, including a quick submission of Sam Stout to earn the shot. read more

Will we see Florian versus Sherk for the lightweight title?
The two top contenders for the lightweight title are Kenny Florian and Sean Sherk.  Pretty straightforward stuff there.  The UFC makes the match and bam! we have a new lightweight champion.  Again, pretty straightforward stuff.  Should be easy as one, two, three and money in the bank for Zuffa the way it looks on paper.  Check the upcoming pay per views and look for this fight. July 18, 2006 Kenny Florian: Right Place, Wrong time
The UFC brought back the lightweight division a few months ago and fights were taking place with no title match on the horizon. But with the UFC looking for an opponent for Sean Sherk, the welterweight turned lightweight, the timing isn’t right for Florian. He further explains in this ADCC News Interview.  read more

Sherdog Kenny Florian will be the first UFC lightweight champion since Jens Pulver Something tells me that with Pulver being back in with the UFC and his alleged presence on season five of TUF (Jens dodged all of my questions at the show), it sets up a wonderful showdown between Pulver, who has never lost inside the Octagon and Focker Florian.
